Body Burden - Are We Full of Chemicals?
In 2004 the American Red Cross collected random blood samples and sent them to two individual laboratories to be tested. The results were surprisingly similar. Each one contained hundreds of chemical compounds.
The most surprising thing about this was that these samples came from newborn babies fresh out of their mother's wombs.
This was the very first time that toxins had been measured in the umbilical cord of newborn babies who had never been in contact with the pollutants prevalent in the world that they were entering.
How did this all come about? How did their little bodies become full of chemicals?
In the 1920's and 30's our world was virtually chemical - free.
The "Chemical Revolution" actually started during World War II because of government subsidies for the production of petroleum and its byproducts. Petrochemicals and plastics became the building blocks for the postwar economy. This eventually spread throughout Europe as well.
Because they were cheap and easy to produce, chemicals eventually found their way into our personal care products and cosmetics. Nobody even stopped to question whether they were harmful or not. Big companies were making too much money and people liked the convenience of having such a variety of products on hand in drug stores.
Now, years later we see the devastating effects in cancer, birth defects, abnormal development in children and scores of other diseases that have become rampant in our modern world. We've managed not only to pollute our environment but we've done it to ourselves as well and now we're passing these toxins on to our innocent offspring.
What is being done about this travesty?...two words...not much.
The Cosmetic Industry is so big and powerful (and wealthy) that it literally polices itself. They do this through a group called CIR - Cosmetic Ingredient Review - which is run by ... the Cosmetic Toiletry and Fragrance Association!! (anyone see a conflict of interest here?)
It looks as though it's totally our responsibility to use products that don't contain any petroleum based ingredients, only those high quality ones made naturally.
You can find a variety of those products here: http://www.farrensnaturalcosmetics.com/
You'll be doing it not only for yourself but for future generations.
